Week 6
I have always understood how important it is to
ensure academic integrity when completing any assignment. This week's readings
definitely reinforced that and clarified some things about plagiarism that I
was a bit unsure of. The video "Avoiding Plagiarism: What Do I Need to
Cite" was great in reminding me that ideas should also be cited.
Although it is common knowledge, as stated in the video, it is very easy to
overlook when one is caught up writing a paper. After completing the
reading "What is
Creative Commons" I became aware of the Creative Commons
organization. I had never heard of this great copyright modification tool
before. I feel it is a great idea to enable the copyright holders to decide how
much they allow their work to be used. All of the readings and videos have been
great reminders of the importance of citing other people’s works and of the
severity of the offense when not done when needed.

Hello Mayra,
ReplyDeleteYour blog was very informing, I honestly must admit that I really never understood the importance of citing other peoples work. I don't mean that in a way of taking credit for others work but just of how important it is to give that individual the credit that is very well deserved. They are the ones that put in the time and effort of there research so it would only be right that if you are using there words to credit their name. Great blog, thank you!
Hi Mayra,
ReplyDeleteI agree completely I always new it was important but reading about it really reinforced just how important it is to be careful when citing sources. I really enjoyed be able to refresh the importance of understanding how to cite in order to humble myself when it comes to writing a paper using someone else's information. I think it is very important that we understand the severity of plagiarism, especially since to goes on our record. Good read.
Mayra, I am so glad that you had success last week. I also found that ideas should be cited, very interesting. When we are cramming to finish papers and getting in the zone, we don't stop to think about ideas being cited. At least I don't. Citing has always been a deficit for me. There are many different ways and rules and it becomes overwhelming and confusing. I too had not heard of Creative Commons Organization, but I think this tool is unique. It is extremely important not to plagiarize and to cite the amazing authors. I really enjoyed your blog!
ReplyDeleteMyra, I too did not know about the Creative Commons. After learning about this place of sharing and the legalities being handled for us i cant wait to use it. Specifically for the pictures. I find that using pictures to bring a power point alive also leaves big room for plagiarism, as we may not be using that medium in the correct context. Thank you for sharing. Glad we found creative Commons useful.
ReplyDeleteHi Mayra, I think like many, I was unaware of Creative Commons too. I agree with everyone that it is a neat tool. I have always struggled with citing, I think authors deserve all their fair credit just the grammatical part of citing becomes stressful. I used to save citing until the end until I realized how much work it can be. So now I do it as I go writing notes for myself so I don't forget the article. Hence, I am glad we reviewed citing in this class, its always good to refresh and I think it will help us all when we are professionals and understand how to cite and the importance of plagiarism.
